Fan Entertainment Expands into Film with New Movie 'Jjanggu', Directed by Actor Jung Woo
The film 'Jjanggu' (co-directed by Jung Woo and Oh Sung-ho) portrays the gritty journey and survival story of Jjanggu (played by Jung Woo), who moves to Seoul with dreams of becoming an actor. Jung Woo not only stars in the film but also wrote the screenplay and co-directed, infusing the project with a unique authenticity.
The story captures the anxieties and struggles of today's youth through the life of Jjanggu, a 29-year-old aspiring actor who has been in Seoul for ten years. The film humorously depicts the harsh realities of city life through Jjanggu's interactions with his roommate 'Kkangnaengi' (played by Jo Beom-kyu), who is constantly searching for jobs. The presence of Jjanggu's hometown friend 'Jangjae' (played by Shin Seung-ho), with his strong Busan dialect, adds a lively energy to the film. Additionally, the romantic subplot involving Jjanggu, Minhee (played by Jung Soo-jung), and his rival Junsang (played by Hyun Bong-sik) promises to resonate with audiences. 'Jjanggu' is set to portray the resilience of youth amidst failures and uncertainties in a warm and humorous manner.
Fan Entertainment is leveraging the release of 'Jjanggu' to transition into a comprehensive IP business model that includes films, variety shows, and music, in response to the rapidly changing media landscape. Their 2026 strategy focuses on 'multi-platform IP expansion'. Recently, they partnered with Kidari Studio to produce short-form dramas, securing new audiences and revenue streams.
Their music planning business is also gaining momentum. Artist JUNHEE's tour in the US and fan meetings in Japan, along with producer and singer-songwriter LAVIN's solo album release, highlight their diverse activities.
The growth of their subsidiary, Media Castle, is noteworthy. Following the success of 'Exit 8' and 'National Treasure', Media Castle is distributing live-action films '5 Centimeters per Second' and 'The Last Song You Left', showcasing their keen eye for hits. They are also expanding into exhibitions and pop-up stores based on their successful IPs, ensuring a stable revenue structure. Additionally, they co-produced the MBC variety show 'Rookie Director Kim Yeon-koung', directed by volleyball legend Kim Yeon-koung, marking a successful entry into the variety show market.
A representative from Fan Entertainment stated, "2026 will be a year of significant growth as we establish ourselves as a 'comprehensive content studio' not limited to any specific medium. We aim to maximize the added value of our major projects, starting with the release of 'Jjanggu'."
