'The King and the Man' Surpasses 16.39 Million Viewers, Becomes Second Highest Grossing Film in History
According to the integrated computer network for movie tickets, 'Sal Mok Ji' directed by Lee Sang-min was the box office leader on the 12th, adding 197,690 viewers to reach a total of 724,039 viewers.
'Sal Mok Ji' follows a road view filming team returning to a mysterious reservoir, Sal Mok Ji, known for strange rumors, after an unidentified shape is captured there. The film stars Kim Hye-yoon.
In second place is 'Project Hail Mary' directed by Phil Lord, with a daily audience of 97,251 and a cumulative audience of 2,041,524.
'Project Hail Mary' tells the story of Grace (Ryan Gosling), who wakes up alone in the middle of space without memory, tasked with a final mission to save humanity from an impending apocalypse. The film stars Ryan Gosling and Sandra Wheeler.
The third spot in the box office is held by 'The King and the Man', with a daily audience of 65,972 and a cumulative audience of 16,397,347.
'The King and the Man' became the 34th film in history to surpass ten million viewers on March 6. It surpassed 'Extreme Job' (2019, 16.26 million viewers) to become the second highest-grossing film in history. The all-time leader is 'The Admiral: Roaring Currents' (2014, 17.61 million viewers).
'The King and the Man' is set in 1457 Cheongryeongpo, depicting the story of a village chief who chooses exile for the village's revival and a young dethroned king in exile. The film stars Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae, and Jeon Mi-do.
