Jang Dong-yoon Makes Directorial Debut with Feature Film 'Nuruuk'
Jang Dong-yoon takes on his first feature film directorial challenge with 'Nuruuk'.

On the 4th, a press screening for the film 'Nuruuk' was held at Megabox COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul. Director Jang Dong-yoon and actors Kim Seung-yoon and Song Ji-hyuk were in attendance.

'Nuruuk' tells the story of Dasul, the daughter of a brewery owner, who notices a change in the taste of makgeolli and sets out to find the missing nuruk, the main ingredient of the traditional Korean rice wine. This film marks actor Jang Dong-yoon's debut as a feature film director.

Kim Seung-yoon plays the role of Dasul, an eighteen-year-old girl who loves makgeolli. Song Ji-hyuk portrays Dahyun, her seemingly aloof but caring older brother.

Ahead of the film's release, Director Jang Dong-yoon expressed, "I never thought the film would be released. The moment of its release is overwhelmingly emotional." On why he ventured into directing, he shared, "The dream of directing didn't start grandly. As I continued my acting career, my desire to create grew, leading to my debut in feature film directing." He added, "I felt the weight of responsibility that comes with being a director."

When asked about the most memorable and challenging moments, Director Jang said, "The most grateful and touching moment is right now, as we approach the release." Regarding the challenges, he mentioned, "The post-production phase was particularly tough. I often thought, 'I should have done better on set,' facing the reality after it was all over. It was a learning experience, and I hope to do better if given another opportunity."

Director Jang also imbued the film's nuruk with a deeper meaning. He explained, "I see nuruk as something that humans believe in and live by, and I tried to convey that throughout the film." He continued, "Dasul gains courage and comfort, and I wanted the film to end on a hopeful note. I hope viewers take away a warm feeling of courage and strength based on what they believe in."

'Nuruuk' is set to be released on the 15th.
