Director Jang Hang-jun Reveals Wife Kim Eun-hee's Recommendation for 'The Man Who Lives with the King'
Director Jang Hang-jun shared that his wife, writer Kim Eun-hee, recommended the film 'The Man Who Lives with the King'.

On the 19th, a production briefing for the film 'The Man Who Lives with the King' was held at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Director Jang Hang-jun, along with actors Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae, and Jeon Mi-do, attended the event.

'The Man Who Lives with the King' is set in Cheongnyeongpo in 1457 and tells the story of a village chief who volunteers for exile to revive his village and a young dethroned king in exile. It explores the hidden story of Danjong, the 6th king of the Joseon Dynasty.

Yoo Hae-jin plays Eom Heung-do, the village chief of Gwangcheongol who dreams of a prosperous life for his village. Park Ji-hoon portrays the young dethroned king, Lee Hong-wi. Yoo Ji-tae takes on the role of Han Myeong-hoe, a powerful figure who helped place Suyang Daegun on the throne. Jeon Mi-do appears as Mae-hwa, a court lady who assists Lee Hong-wi.

Director Jang Hang-jun described the film as "set in Yeongwol, Gangwon Province, and tells the story of people in a small village. They await the arrival of someone exiled from Hanyang with a mix of anticipation and excitement. It's also a story of friendship between the village chief and Danjong."

This marks Director Jang Hang-jun's first historical drama and the first film to focus on Danjong. He admitted, "I hesitated a lot when I first received the proposal. The film industry wasn't in great shape at the time, and the historical drama genre has its challenges. But I realized Danjong's story hadn't been explored before, so I thought it would be worthwhile to try."

Jang Hang-jun, whose wife Kim Eun-hee is known for her successful projects, said, "When I mentioned it at home, she encouraged me to do it. She has a good sense for these things, so I decided to go for it. You tend to listen to successful people, don't you? I don't go to fortune tellers," he joked. Regarding the casting, he added, "Since we're doing this, I wanted to go for fresh casting choices and work with talented actors."

'The Man Who Lives with the King' is set to premiere on February 4th next year.
