Hyun Woo-seok Sheds 10kg for '5 Minutes with You' and Celebrates Netflix's 'Girigo' Casting
On October 31, at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, actor Hyun Woo-seok, who stars in the film '5 Minutes with You,' shared insights about his role.
'5 Minutes with You' is set in 2001 and tells the story of two boys who share their favorite music and secrets. Hyun Woo-seok plays Jaemin, a model student and class president who befriends the new student, Kyunghwan, played by Shim Hyun-seo.
Hyun Woo-seok mentioned that he gained weight to portray a youthful high school student in the film but has since lost 10kg. He said, "It was a fresh and youthful film. I've been looking forward to its release. I hope audiences find it endearing. It's a movie that fits well with the chilly season."
His next project is Netflix's 'Girigo,' a story about high school students who use an app that grants wishes but must escape its curse. Filming wrapped up in August. Hyun Woo-seok plays Ha-jun, a 'brain' character interested in coding who uncovers the app's secrets. 'Girigo' marks his first leading role in a commercial project.
Regarding his casting in 'Girigo,' Hyun Woo-seok said, "I was so thrilled that I couldn't sleep for three days due to the dopamine rush," he laughed. He added, "I prepared for it with the same mindset as my previous works, so I didn't feel a difference between independent and commercial films. It felt like the same set, but the tension was much higher."
When asked about his future aspirations, he replied, "I often say, 'It's not something I'll do for just a day or two.' I want to continue steadily and slowly. I hope to look back at each project and feel proud. It means I want to give my best effort." He also emphasized, "I once watched a film that deeply resonated with me, and I realized that if you act sincerely, you can make others empathize. My ultimate goal is to become an actor who can evoke empathy."
Hyun Woo-seok began his acting career with Netflix's 'Love Alarm' (2019) and gained recognition as Oh Seung-gwon in 'The School Nurse Files.' He has since appeared in youth dramas like JTBC's 'Live On' and SBS's 'Cheer Up,' showcasing a range of emotions. In '5 Minutes with You,' he plays Jaemin, a boy who doesn't easily reveal his true feelings.
'5 Minutes with You' is set to premiere on November 5.
