Lee Byung-hun Takes on Lead Role in Epic Action Film 'Nambal'
According to an exclusive report by TenAsia on the 5th, Lee Byung-hun has been cast as the protagonist in 'Nambal'. In this film, he will portray 'Im Eok', the leader of warriors fighting against Japanese pirates, showcasing his powerful presence. Lee Byung-hun has chosen 'Nambal' as his return to the big screen following his last appearance in 'Decision to Leave' (directed by Park Chan-wook), which was released in September last year.
Set in the early Joseon period, 'Nambal' is a grand martial arts action film that follows nine warriors of varying abilities and ranks as they embark on a mission to Tsushima Island to rescue hostages captured by Japanese pirates. With its solid narrative, epic scale, intense action, and stunning visuals, 'Nambal' is gearing up to begin production this year.
'Nambal' marks the directorial debut of cinematographer Lee Mo-gae, known for his exceptional visual work in films like 'Spring of Seoul', 'Pamyoh', 'Hunt', and 'Yadang'. The screenplay is penned by Kim Hyo-seok, the writer of 'Yadang', who is set to bring the nine warrior characters to life with depth and vibrancy.
Previously, Lee Byung-hun has been actively involved in projects such as the films 'The Match', 'Decision to Leave', and the drama 'Squid Game Season 3'. He is also reported to star in the upcoming Disney+ series 'Koreans', set to be released next year.
