Kim You-jung Reflects on Her Turning Point as an Actress at the Busan International Film Festival
Kim You-jung recently shared insights into a pivotal moment in her acting career. Now 26 and nearing 30, she expressed her amazement at having a child actor portray her younger self.

On the 18, during the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), 'Actor's House: Kim You-jung' was held at Sohyang Theater Shinhan Card Hall at Dongseo University in Busan. 'Actor's House' is an event that delves into the personal stories and artistic journeys of contemporary actors.

Kim You-jung, known for portraying characters with tragic destinies, reflected, "Looking back, most of my roles mirrored harsh realities. As I approached adulthood, I realized these roles were affecting me negatively. That's when I started seeking brighter roles." She continued, "Not just bright, but characters who strive to overcome challenges, like a 'Candy' character. As a child, I found them frustrating, but later I understood that everyone must navigate life this way. We all have to find our path." She added, "The world seems as beautiful as I perceive it to be. After playing characters with tragic fates, I experienced a turning point and have taken on brighter roles since becoming an adult."

Discussing her turning point, she said, "It was over 10 years ago, during my transition from middle to high school. It's a time when everyone forms and solidifies their identity. I felt this both in my acting and personal life." She continued, "While contemplating these things, I realized that acting, being an actor, was something I instinctively did because it was given to me. But now, moving forward, I understand it's a choice I've made, and I need to remind myself that I love acting and am passionate about it." She admitted, "I still get confused sometimes because I've been acting habitually since I can't remember when. I often wonder, 'When did this become my path?' Now, every moment is shaped by my choices, and I bear the responsibility and consequences. I think, 'It was given to me, but I chose it.'"

Seeing other child actors following in her footsteps, Kim You-jung described it as a surreal experience, saying, "It was when I had a child actor playing my younger self. I still can't get used to it," she laughed. She added, "They are the most beloved on set. I want to give them the greatest love because I've been through those moments myself," she smiled.
