Kim You-jung Opens Up About Overcoming Fears in New Suspense Drama 'Dear X'

On the 18, during the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), 'Actors House: Kim You-jung' was held at Sohyang Theater Shinhan Card Hall at Dongseo University in Busan. 'Actors House' is a platform where prominent actors of our time share candid stories and delve into their artistic worlds.
Kim You-jung is eagerly anticipating the release of the TVING drama 'Dear X' (directed by Lee Eung-bok) on November 6. 'Dear X' tells the story of Baek Ah-jin, a woman who wears a mask to escape hell and rise to the top, and the Xs she cruelly tramples on. Kim You-jung plays the role of the fallen actress Baek Ah-jin.
Regarding her role as the glamorous actress, Kim You-jung explained, "This is a completely different side from what I've shown the public before. Ah-jin possesses the most extreme desires a human can have, yet she exercises the utmost restraint. She clashes with many people and showcases thrilling human relationships. She is a character who navigates through storms as a human being. She embodies a lot."
She continued, "The genre is suspense. It's a genre I've never experienced before. There were roles that many people liked, and I also liked them, so I instinctively sought bright roles after becoming an adult. 'Dear X' approached me with fear, but I decided to take it on because I felt I might miss a significant experience in my life if I didn't." She confessed, "Initially, it was scary, daunting, and burdensome. The character itself was challenging for me to research." She added, "Despite those feelings, I relied heavily on my fellow actors and the director, building trust and feeling excitement. Filming was enjoyable. It's rare for a genre piece to be enjoyable, but it was. I felt regret when it ended."
Kim You-jung described director Lee Eung-bok, whom she met through 'Dear X,' as "the person who had the most significant impact on me." She continued, "He was someone with much to learn from. Our first meeting wasn't natural or happy because I had a lot of fear about this project. It was a time when I was taking a step back." She said, "The director conveyed his respect for me as an actress, and I felt it deeply. He explained in detail how this work would be expressed and what synergy Baek Ah-jin would have when played by Kim You-jung. Listening to the director, I believed he could make my fears disappear."
