Actor Seo Hyun-woo Discusses Intense Character Preparation for Netflix's '84 Square Meters'

Actor Seo Hyun-woo reflects on his character preparation process.

On the 21st, an interview was conducted with Seo Hyun-woo, who plays Jin-ho in Netflix's '84 Square Meters,' at a café in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. '84 Square Meters' is an unpredictable thriller about Woo-sung (played by Kang Ha-neul), a member of the 'young and broke' generation who finally secures his own apartment, only to be tormented by mysterious noise from the apartment above. Seo Hyun-woo plays Jin-ho, the suspicious upstairs neighbor who joins Woo-sung in uncovering the source of the noise.

During the interview, Seo Hyun-woo shared, "I don't think I've ever played a character with such intensity and violence before. It was my first time portraying a character who screams, rages, and goes wild for an extended period," adding, "There was a lot to prepare. The director wanted the character to embody the look of a battle-hardened fighter."

He continued, "Initially, there were discussions about shaving my head and appearing in just underwear. I also trained in boxing for three months for the role. Although the scene was edited out, we even filmed a shadow boxing scene."

Meanwhile, '84 Square Meters' is currently streaming on Netflix.
