Anthony Mackie Takes on the Shield: New 'Captain America: Brave New World' Announced by Disney
Anthony Mackie has officially become the new Captain America. Disney is set to release a new film, 'Captain America: Brave New World'.
On the 20th, The Walt Disney Company (Disney) held the 'Disney Content Showcase 2024' at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. This event previewed upcoming theatrical releases and streaming content for 2025-2026, featuring top global stars from the U.S. and the Asia-Pacific region.
Anthony Mackie returns as Sam Wilson, the new Captain America, in 'Captain America: Brave New World'. After reuniting with President Thaddeus Ross, Sam finds himself at the center of an international incident, uncovering the hidden forces and motives behind a sinister plot to dominate the world. During the event, Anthony Mackie participated in an exclusive Q&A session. Known for his role as Falcon in the previous 'Avengers' series, Mackie is now taking on his second character in the Marvel universe. He reminisced, "I was watching football at Chris Evans' house when he showed me the last two pages of the 'Endgame' script. We were so excited, we jumped around the room."
Reflecting on his iconic role, Mackie expressed, "I'm thrilled. I've never felt this way before. Being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for about 10 years and evolving into Captain America is a unique journey for a character."
Mackie shared his experiences, "Initially, it was challenging. TV acting and movie acting are different. Movies have more services and even send sandwiches, while TV shoots are busier. Movies are shot four months in advance, but TV takes 6-7 months. It requires much more time." He added humorously, "I'm glad to be back in movies."
Discussing his character, Mackie explained, "Sam is someone who advises veterans, then meets Steve and becomes part of his team, eventually joining the Avengers. Sam's journey is significant, becoming a community leader and a national leader. It's a much larger scale." He humorously noted the difference from the previous Captain America, "No serum." He continued, "Sam uses his head more than force, solving many issues with intelligence. He's a friend to everyone."
On what to expect, Mackie teased, "I defeat many people. Look forward to it." He added, "The new suit is really advanced. I met people in Wakanda, had dinner, and they threw a welcome party. When I left, they gave me the suit. It allows me to fly faster and hit harder. The suit has been upgraded."
'Captain America: Brave New World' is set to release in February 2025.
During the two-day content showcase on the 20th and 21st, Disney introduced its theatrical releases and streaming content for 2025 and beyond. The event featured previews and exclusive footage from Disney's creative studios worldwide, including new Korean and Japanese content, with top global stars from the U.S. and the Asia-Pacific region in attendance. Over 500 journalists and partners from 12 countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including Korea, participated.
On the first day, Disney, 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Lucasfilm, and Marvel Studios showcased their theatrical and streaming lineups, highlighting their unique creativity and powerful storytelling.
