Director Woo Min-ho Returns with 'Harbin': A Thrilling Winter Release
Director Woo Min-ho, known for heating up the winter box office with hits like 'The Man Standing Next' and 'Inside Men', is back with his latest film, 'Harbin'.
Following the success of 'The Man Standing Next', Woo Min-ho returns to theaters with 'Harbin'. Many of Woo's successful films have been released in winter, making his return to the winter box office even more exciting for fans.
Woo Min-ho's films often revisit significant events in Korean history, offering a unique perspective that resonates with audiences. From 'Inside Men', which exposed the underbelly of Korean society, to 'The Man Standing Next', which depicted the 1979 assassination of a president, Woo's films have sparked discussions and demonstrated the power of cinema. Known for his critical and realistic storytelling, Woo now turns his attention to the year 1909.
'Harbin' is set in 1909 and follows the intense pursuit and suspicion between those heading to Harbin for a common purpose and those chasing them. On his decision to direct 'Harbin', Woo Min-ho stated, "Everyone knows that General Ahn Jung-geun, as a lieutenant general of the Korean Independence Army, assassinated Ito Hirobumi. However, I pondered how to make this process engaging in a cinematic way. I wanted the film to bring audiences closer to General Ahn's heart." The film's focus on General Ahn's sincerity and the stories of the independence fighters is anticipated to resonate with contemporary audiences.
'Harbin' marks another collaboration between Woo Min-ho and Hive Media Corp, who have worked together since 'Inside Men'. The film also benefits from the expertise of the production team behind 'Spring in Seoul' and 'Deliver Us from Evil'. The cast includes Hyun Bin, Park Jung-min, and Jo Woo-jin.
'Harbin' is set to release on December 25th.
