Netflix Confirms Production of Byun Sung-hyun's New Film 'Good News'
'Good News' is a film set in the 1970s, depicting the suspicious operations of a group of people gathered to land a hijacked plane by any means necessary. Director Byun Sung-hyun, who previously showcased his work 'Kill Boksoon' at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival's Special Section, has been recognized for his artistic prowess.
'Good News' marks the second collaboration between Byun Sung-hyun and Netflix, following 'Kill Boksoon.' The film industry is keenly watching to see what new creation will emerge from this partnership. Byun Sung-hyun, known for his stylish direction in 'The Merciless,' which depicted the relationship between two men navigating loyalty and suspicion, was invited to the Midnight Screening non-competitive section of the 70th Cannes Film Festival. He also received accolades for 'Kingmaker,' hailed as the 'most sophisticated political noir,' winning the Baeksang Arts Awards and the Grand Bell Awards for Best Director. His cinematic imagination, which has captivated audiences across various genres, will now unfold a gripping story of strategic maneuvers and conflicts surrounding a 1970s airplane hijacking.
The casting of 'Good News' is equally compelling. Seol Kyung-gu, who has delivered iconic performances in 'The Merciless,' 'Kingmaker,' and 'Kill Boksoon,' will collaborate with Byun Sung-hyun for the fourth time. Seol, who showcased his exceptional acting skills as a Prime Minister willing to get his hands dirty to eradicate corrupt political power in the Netflix series 'The Whirlwind,' will transform into a fixer who appears whenever needed to resolve incidents in 'Good News.' The synergy between Byun Sung-hyun and Seol Kyung-gu is one of the most anticipated aspects of the film. Additionally, rising star Hong Kyung will play an Air Force lieutenant involved in the secret operation, bringing his unique blend of softness and strength to the role. Known for his multi-dimensional characters in works like 'Weak Hero Class 1,' 'The Devil,' and 'Comment Army,' Hong Kyung will showcase a new facet of his acting prowess.
Ryu Seung-beom, known for his commanding presence, will join the cast as the government official controlling all operations. Having captivated viewers with his aura as 'Frank' in the series 'Moving,' Ryu will add depth and realism to the film with his distinctive, lifelike acting and charisma.
