Actor Kim Seong-gyu of the movie ‘Noryang: Sea of Death’ mentioned his thoughts on the release.

Actor Kim Seong-gyu was interviewed about the movie 'Noryang: Sea of Death' (directed by Kim Han-min) at a cafe located in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 4th.

‘Noryang: Sea of Death’ is a war action masterpiece depicting Admiral Yi Sun-sin’s final battle to completely annihilate the Japanese army trying to retreat from Joseon, seven years after the outbreak of the Japanese Invasion of Korea. Kim Seong-gyu played the role of an anti-Japanese warrant officer who helped Yi Sun-sin fight the battle.

I met many audiences while giving stage greetings for 'Noryang', which was released on December 20th. When asked what the 'Noryang' stage greeting was like, he said, "Because it was Christmas and a holiday, many families came. It was the same with 'Hansan', but 'Noryang' was a new feeling because older people said they enjoyed it."

Regarding his impressions of appearing as Junsa in 'Noryang' following 'Hansan: Appearance of the Dragon' (2022), he said, "I feel grateful as a result. When filming 'Hansan', I had difficulties both linguistically and character-wise. I felt a little too much. I was worried when the director asked me to do 'Noryang' as well. However, I felt a love for the role of Junsa or a sense of responsibility to finish well. As an actor and a person, playing this role meant a lot to me. “It’s the same. I didn’t feel it at the time, but I think I’ve grown,” he explained.

Unlike in 'The Villain' and 'Crime City' where he showed his intensity by playing the villain, in 'Noryang' he took on the role of following Yi Sun-sin's side. When asked if he heard the reason for casting from director Kim Han-min, he said, "Rather than telling me any specific aspects, the director's willingness to trust me gave me courage. The director was very well-organized and clear on set. On the other hand, I was anxious. “I did it. Because you trust me so much (laughter),” he replied.

The movie ‘Noryang: Sea of Death’ was released on December 20, 2023.
