Ryu Kyung-soo "My strength is my plain and boring face."
Actor Ryu Kyung-soo chose his strength as ‘ordinariness.’

On the 26th, I met Ryu Kyung-soo, who appeared in the Netflix movie 'Jeong-i', at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul. Ryu Kyung-soo plays the role of Sang-hoon, the head of a research institute who must succeed in developing combat AI.

When asked what kind of work he is attracted to, Ryu Kyung-soo replied, "I like realistic things, but the reason I continue to work with director Yeon Sang-ho is because I also like the cartoon-like world view. Things that we don't encounter in everyday life." He continued, "The acting of actors I like and see often is restrained, without doing anything special. I pursue these things, but on the other hand, I am also interested in cartoon-like characters and such worldviews. I still want to try many different things." He revealed his desire for acting.

Ryu Kyung-soo said, "Roles like someone's son and someone's friend. What I thought was a weakness in the past, but now I think it's a strength is 'an ordinary-looking face.' It's just a boring-looking face." When complimented that his eyes seemed to contain a lot of things, he was delighted and said, "It's a good thing that your eyes stand out. You almost express your emotions through your eyes." He also expressed his desire to attempt external transformation, saying, “I want to try long hair, but I have to think about my next project, so the conditions are not available.”

Why is acting attractive to Ryu Kyung-soo? He said, "It means you can live many lives that you have never experienced. For example, if a character is 30 years old, I have to express a person who has lived 30 years of life in a short period of time. To do that, I need to get as close to that character as possible. The 30-year gap. "I have to make up for it, so I keep thinking about it. How close can I get? That's what requires the process of thinking and researching," he said. He also expressed his satisfaction with the new experiences he could have through the character, saying, “Living a life that cannot be lived, it was the same in ‘Jungi’ and ‘Hell.’”

'Jeong-i' is a science fiction film that tells the story of people who try to develop the best combat AI by cloning the brain of the legendary mercenary 'Jeong-i' in order to end the war that broke out in the shelter where they migrated away from the Earth devastated by climate change. It was released on Netflix on the 20th.
