'Doctor Chun' director Kim Seong-sik "Kang Dong-won, whose pores are beautiful"

Director Kim Seong-sik (38) recalled being impressed by the aura of actor Kang Dong-won (42).

On the 26th, director Kim Seong-sik was interviewed by Ten Asia about the movie 'Dr. Cheon's Exorcism Lab: Secrets of the Snow Scenery' (director Kim Seong-sik, hereinafter referred to as 'Dr. Cheon') at a cafe in Sogyeok-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.

'Dr. Cheon's Exorcism Lab: Secrets of the Snowy Scene' is a film that begins when Dr. Cheon (Kang Dong-won), a fake exorcist who does not believe in ghosts but has ghost-like insight, is commissioned to handle a powerful case he has never experienced before. Director Kim Seong-sik made his directorial debut with ‘Dr. Cheon’.

Director Kim Seong-sik, who has worked in the film production department of directors Bong Joon-ho and Park Chan-wook for about 10 years, recalled the time when he first saw Kang Dong-won. “The first time I was surprised to see Kang Dong-won was at the set of ‘Hwayi.’ I was working as a scripter at the time, and a person with a certain halo walked up to me. That was the first time we met and exchanged greetings. At that time, his clothes were also dark, but he glowed.” He recalled.

He also shared the moment he saw Kang Dong-won for the second time. “I was on set for ‘Train to Busan,’ and senior Kang Dong-won was filming ‘Prosecutor Abduction’ on the set next to me. But senior Kang Dong-won was just sitting down with an apple and eating it. But the female staff gathered around him like a swarm of clouds. “I was surprised once again when I saw it.”

Director Kim Seong-sik said Kang Dong-won was his first choice in casting. Director Kim accurately remembered the time when Kang Dong-won accepted the casting for ‘Dr. December 24, 21, 9 p.m. He described Kang Dong-won's casting as a 'Christmas present'. "I adapted the 'Dr. Chun' scenario for about a month and said, 'I don't know,' and handed it to senior Kang Dong-won. Then, I received a text message from director Ryu Seung-wan, saying, 'Kang Dong-won said he would see it.' “I was really grateful that Director Ryu said, ‘It almost sounds like you’re doing it.’ It was a Christmas present to me.”

Director Kim Seong-sik thought that Kang Dong-won was the only one who could play the role of Dr. Cheon in ‘Dr. He said, "I can tell from the first scene that my choice was not wrong. When Dr. Cheon wakes up, his pupils, his expressions, even his skin texture. Even his pores are beautiful. Rather, my vessel is too small to contain all his beauty. “It’s a shame I couldn’t do it,” he said with a laugh.

Director Kim said of 'Dr. Cheon' that it was a movie made for the Chuseok holiday, and added, "Nowadays, mothers of children may be attracted to Kang Dong-won, seniors may be attracted to Heo Jun-ho, children may be attracted to Park So-yi, and MZs may be attracted to Dong-hwi Lee." He added, "The content of the movie is also for the whole family." “It is a family movie that everyone can watch together. We made it with the goal of making it a special Chuseok movie every Chuseok. Please look forward to it,” he emphasized.

‘Dr. Chun’ will be released on September 27th.
