Director Hwang Hye-in's short film 'Hole' performed at the Cannes Film Festival.

According to the Korean Film Council on the 26th, 'Hole' was officially invited to the La Cinef section of the 76th Cannes International Film Festival. ‘Hole’ is a graduation film from the regular program of the Korean Film Council (KAFA).
It has been 14 years since director Cho Seong-hee's 'Brother and Sister's House' (2009) that a KAFA work was invited to the Cannes International Film Festival. Director Cho received the third place award at the time. The La Cinef section is a competition section for short films from film schools around the world (formerly Ne Foundation), and is the first Korean film to be invited in two years since director Dae-won Yoon's 'Cicada' in 2021.
The movie 'Hole' tells the story of a social worker who visits a brother and sister's house on her way out of work and discovers a large manhole in the room, and is suggested by the children to go into it. It is a work that stands out for its gloomy atmosphere and strange tension. Dimitra Karya, Artistic Director of La Sineuf Section, said of 'The Hole', "It is a very well-directed, understated and persuasive thriller" and "It is a work of art by H. “A strange and scary atmosphere came to mind,” he said.
Director Hwang Hye-in, who successfully entered the Cannes International Film Festival this time, is a regular program graduate (39th class) who just graduated from KAFA in February of this year. Director Hwang expressed his thoughts about advancing to this film festival, saying, "I am happy to share this news with the actors and staff who made the film together. I am also grateful to KAFA for creating an environment where I can focus solely on film."
KAFA President Cho Geun-sik said, "The entry into this film festival is more meaningful as it is the first time Kisu has been invited to the Cannes International Film Festival in a long time since moving to Busan. We will continue to strive to make KAFA a film school that is recognized not only in Korea but internationally."
Meanwhile, a total of five Korean feature films were invited to this year's Cannes International Film Festival, including 'The Spider's Nest' starring Song Kang-ho (directed by Kim Ji-woon) and 'The Hwaran' starring Song Joong-ki (directed by Kim Chang-hoon). The Cannes International Film Festival will be held in Cannes, southern France, from May 16th to 27th.
