‘Oppenheimer’ ranks first for 15 days, ‘Smuggling’ exceeds 5 million

While the movie 'Oppenheimer' has been holding the top spot at the box office for 15 days since its release, 'Smuggling' is certain to exceed 5 million in 30 days.

According to the box office of the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network for movie theater admissions on the 29th, 'Oppenheimer' (director Christopher Nolan) mobilized 46,453 viewers, recording a cumulative attendance of 2,419,449.

'Oppenheimer' is director Christopher Nolan's new film about the nuclear development project of a genius scientist who must take the risk of destroying the world in order to save it. On the 26th, it reached 2 million viewers. In the beginning, it attracted audiences faster than director Nolan's 'Inception' and 'The Dark Knight', but it is evaluated that it is not showing strong support due to the three-hour running time and difficult story development.

Second place ‘Concrete Utopia’ (director Eom Tae-hwa) attracted 37,176 viewers and recorded a cumulative audience of 3,374,896. 'Concrete Utopia' is a disaster drama that tells the story of Seoul, which has been devastated by a major earthquake, with survivors gathering in the only remaining palace apartment. 'Concrete Utopia' was evaluated as both artistic and popular and was selected as a Korean film entry in the International Feature Film category at the 96th Academy Awards.

Third place is 'Sweet Sea: 7510' (director Lee Han), which is doing well, mobilizing 30,179 viewers and recording a cumulative audience of 907,800. 'Sweet Water: 7510' tells the story of Chi-ho (Yoo Hae-jin), a genius confectionery researcher who knows nothing but sweets, and how the taste of life changes when he meets Il-yeong (Kim Hee-seon), a worldly positive person who only knows how to go straight. ‘Sweet Sea’ is also gradually attracting audiences and is heading toward 1 million.

'Smuggler' (Director Ryu Seung-wan) ranked 4th, attracting 16,331 viewers, with a cumulative audience of 4,995,961. 'Smuggling' is a maritime crime activity in which people who make a living by salvaging daily necessities thrown into the sea are caught up in the events of their lives. 'Smuggler', the only one of the Big 4 to break even, is certain to exceed 5 million within 30 days.

‘Elemental’ (directed by Peter Thorn) is in 5th place. It mobilized 7,594 audiences, and the cumulative audience number is 7,053,320. On the 27th, celebrations broke out as the number exceeded 7 million. 'Elemental' is recording the best score among animations since 'Frozen'.
