Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos explained that the people's pride and support seem to be a unique strength of Korean content.

At 10:30 am on the 22nd, a meeting was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Gwanghwamun, Jongno-gu, Seoul, to talk about Netflix and Korean content. The event was attended by Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos, Netflix content managers, and domestic content creators.

At the event, we talked about the Netflix collaboration experience of the creators, who are the protagonists of Korean content, and the future vision of Korean content. In particular, Ted Sarandos visited Korea for the first time since he was appointed co-CEO of Netflix.

Ted Sarandos started as Netflix CCO (Chief Content Officer) in January 2000 and rose to the position of Netflix Co-CEO in July 2020. He explained the characteristics of Korean content. “It seems to be a country with great storytelling. Interestingly, fashion music, food, etc. are buried in various stories. Creatively and commercially, they seem to be drawn to the beautiful screens, spaces, and unpredictable stories. My wife is a huge fan of 'The Strange Lawyer Woo Young-woo'. Surprising the audience seems to be the power of Korean content.”

“It seems to be directly related to the pride of the people. Like directors Park Chan-wook and Bong Joon-ho, it seems to be a unique element that people are nationally supported with pride like heroes.”

He also mentioned his relationship with Korean content, which began with Bong Joon-ho's 'Okja' in 2016. He said, “Working with director Bong Joon-ho of 'Okja' is very good. I watched 'The Host' when Netflix mailed it. Watching the director's commentary, it seems that great affection and curiosity arose. Director Bong Joon-ho is a master. At that time, there were few Korean works on Netflix. Since then, it has grown into an influential company, and I am proud to have been with Okja.”

He didn't say anything about the account sharing method, which is becoming the biggest topic of Netflix. “Account sharing will continue globally. There is nothing to reveal today, but I hope you will look forward to it.”
