Former Flight Attendant Ryu Yi-seo Reveals Strict Beauty Standards in Aviation Industry
On the 23rd, a video titled 'Legendary Flight Attendant Ryu Yi-seo's Makeup Evolution Over 16 Years at Asiana Airlines (Revealing Flight Attendant Must-Haves)' was uploaded to the YouTube channel 'My Love Ryu Yi-seo.' In the video, Ryu Yi-seo wore a brown blouse similar to an airline uniform and demonstrated the makeup she frequently wore during her flight attendant days.
Jun Jin commented, "I've heard that makeup trends differ among flight attendants." Ryu Yi-seo responded, "There were trending makeup styles and standards that changed over time. There is an evolution." She recreated the flight attendant makeup style from the 2000s, explaining, "We mixed white and dark-toned foundations, and a matte skin finish was essential. If there was any shine, it looked like we weren't wearing makeup."
The rigorous makeup inspection process during training caught attention. Ryu Yi-seo revealed, "During training, instructors personally inspected our makeup. We had to wear red nail polish because it was the most noticeable. If we didn't follow the rules, we had to write an explanation."
She also mentioned detailed regulations for eye and lip makeup, stating, "For eye makeup, we had to use sky blue, light purple, or pink shades, and for lips, we had to outline with a lip liner and fill in with red." She added, "If I had known how tough the training was, I might not have chosen to be a flight attendant."
After completing her makeup, Ryu Yi-seo revealed her bright red lips, causing a stir. Looking at her reflection, she joked, "I see a lady with a red face in the mirror," prompting laughter. Jun Jin quickly reassured her, "You look just as beautiful. But did you really fly looking like this?" expressing disbelief.
Meanwhile, Jun Jin and Ryu Yi-seo tied the knot in 2020.
