KAI Transforms Concert into a Musical Masterpiece, Captivating Audiences
KAI held his solo concert 'KAI in the HIDDEN PALACE' on October 21 and 22 at the Blue Square WooriWON Banking Hall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
The concert featured a diverse setlist, including new songs from his latest album, fan-favorite hits, debut performances, and even German versions of famous musical pieces. The stage design resembled a secret palace, and the atmosphere was crafted to reflect the passage of time from dawn to night, offering audiences a transcendent experience.
KAI, dressed in an all-white suit, made a grand entrance, inviting the audience into a dreamlike palace with orchestral live music. The concert opened with the overture from the musical 'The Last Kiss,' building tension and energy, followed by songs like 'Sarangiya,' 'Evermore,' 'In Your Dreams,' and 'Everyone's World,' which gradually exploded with emotion, showcasing his powerful vocals.
During the performance of 'Bee' from his first album, KAI played the piano, signaling a shift in the narrative of love. He then debuted the song 'Love Eventually Finds Love' live, and reinterpreted the famous aria 'Lascia ch'io pianga' with a rhythmic tone, creating a unique stage.
From the stage 'Hell Presented to You,' KAI transformed from a princely figure in white to a dark warrior in black, exuding sharp charisma and passionate energy with his powerful voice. In 'A Battle That Cannot Be Lost,' he delivered a dramatic visual by grabbing a sword descending from the stage center, followed by the song 'I'm a Monster,' continuing the emotional whirlwind. The finale featured German renditions of musical numbers like 'The Last Dance' from 'Elisabeth,' 'God,' and 'I Am My Own,' leaving a profound impact.
Duet performances with musical actors Jo Jung-eun and Jung Sun-ah were another highlight exclusive to this concert. On the first day, Jo Jung-eun and KAI performed 'Always By Your Side' from the musical 'Monte Cristo,' showcasing their perfect harmony. They continued with the duet 'Goodbye! Despair' from 'Beethoven,' followed by Jo Jung-eun's solo 'As Time Passes.' On the second day, Jung Sun-ah joined KAI for duets like 'Whitby Bay' and 'Loving You Keeps Me Alive' from 'Dracula,' and her solo 'Woman Is,' captivating the audience.
KAI expressed, "I wanted to share the secretive music hidden within this castle concept for this concert," and added, "I selected songs that fans have wanted to hear since my first live performance," emphasizing his effort to connect with the audience. He also shared, "I want to find my true self, which I haven't discovered in the past 18 years. I wish to stand before you while searching for my own treasure island."
Debuting in 2011 with 'The Story of My Life,' KAI has become a beloved leading figure in South Korea's musical theater scene, starring in major productions like 'Jekyll & Hyde,' 'Frankenstein,' 'Beethoven,' and 'Phantom.'
Meanwhile, after successfully concluding his solo concert celebrating his fifth album release, KAI met with fans in Tokyo at the Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall with his second Japanese album 'KAI ON MUSICAL-JAPAN,' and passionately engaged with audiences in the musical 'The Man in Hanbok.'
