Director Jang Hang-jun Regrets Not Opting for Running Guarantee Despite Box Office Success
On the 23rd, the YouTube channel 'BIBOTV - Im Hyung-jun's Acting Castle' featured director Jang Hang-jun, who rose to fame with the film 'The Man Who Lives with the King'.
During the episode, Jang Hang-jun shared insights into his life after becoming a '10 million director' and revealed his new film project. He stated, "Everyone gets a chance in life, and I feel like mine has come," reflecting on his recent success.
When asked if he made a lot of money from his recent success, Jang Hang-jun revealed, "Not all 10 million films make a lot of money. I didn't opt for a running guarantee for an extra 5-6 million won, so I only received the director's fee," evoking sympathy.
A running guarantee is an incentive paid in proportion to the number of viewers exceeding the break-even point. Typically set at 300-500 won per viewer, the total amount is estimated to be around 7 billion won.
The casting process brought laughter. Jang Hang-jun noted, "While Park Bo-gum, Jo In-sung, and Joo Ji-hoon are all possible, it's a low-budget independent film, so it's not easy." However, he mentioned, "Lee Jun-hyuk said he'd do it if I asked him," indicating his consideration of Lee Jun-hyuk for the role.
He humorously added, "IU couldn't match her schedule, so she suggested shooting alongside another film, but I told her it was against the ethics of Chungmuro. I suggested we work together next year," causing laughter.
