Netflix's 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' Wins Two Oscars, Praised by President Lee Jae-myung
On the 15th (local time), the 98th Academy Awards took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles (LA).
'KDH' won both the Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song awards, competing against films like 'Arco,' 'Elio,' 'Little Amelie,' and 'Zootopia 2'.
Director Maggie Kang, who received the trophy, expressed her gratitude, saying, "Thank you to the Academy and everyone who brought us here." She added, "I'm sorry it took so long to make a film with protagonists who look like me. Now, the next generation doesn't have to wait. This film is for Koreans and Korean people worldwide," shedding tears of joy.
On the same day, Lee Jae won the Best Original Song award for the 'KDH' OST 'Golden.' 'Golden' competed against 'Dear Me' from 'Diane Never Dies,' 'I Ride to You' from 'Sinners,' 'Train Dreams' from 'Dream of the Train,' and 'Sweet Dreams of Joy' from 'Viva Verdi.'
Lee Jae, upon receiving the award, said, "Thank you to the Academy for this wonderful award." He continued, "Growing up, people teased me for liking K. Now, we're all singing songs with Korean lyrics. I'm proud."
Upon hearing the news, President Lee Jae-myung sent a congratulatory message via social media. President Lee stated, "We send a hearty applause along with the citizens for this meaningful achievement on the prestigious stage of the global film industry," and praised, "The energy of K-pop and Korean sentiment has connected with the hearts of people worldwide."
To director Maggie Kang and the production team, he said, "You have instilled great pride in Koreans and Korean people worldwide," and complimented, "The dream of Kim Gu for a 'nation that becomes the source of a high and new culture' is becoming a reality."
