Actor Park Shin-yang Reveals Past Injury During 'Lovers in Paris' Filming and His Artistic Journey
On October 2, the YouTube channel 'Now Baek Ji-yeon' released a video titled 'How Does Park Shin-yang React to Revisiting 'Lovers in Paris'?'.
In the video, Park candidly discussed the injuries he sustained during his acting career and how they changed his life. He shared, "I injured my back multiple times during filming. During the first scene of 'Lovers in Paris', I hurt my back while throwing a bag, resulting in a herniated disc."
He continued, "I was told that if I returned to Korea for surgery, I would have to be bedridden for at least three months, but due to the filming schedule, that wasn't possible. I used crutches and completed the filming," he explained.
Following his health issues, Park reflected on his life beyond acting. During the time when his body hadn't fully recovered, he felt a growing longing for distant friends, which led him to start painting. Park explained, "I had never painted before, but I bought materials from an art store and started from scratch."
Park revealed that this endeavor has continued for over 13 years. He has created around 200 paintings and is currently preparing an exhibition that combines theatrical elements. The exhibition will involve 10-15 actors and aims to create an immersive experience for the audience, as if they are entering an artist's studio.
He added that his childhood experiences in art class and philosophical reflections have influenced his approach to art. "Even when drawing an apple, I constantly think about the preconceptions we hold," he said.
During the interview, there was a surprise phone call with actress Kim Jung-eun. As soon as Park saw her name, he answered the call, and Kim laughed, saying, "I was trying to surprise you, but my name showed up."
In conclusion, Park announced plans to publish a book compiling his thoughts alongside the exhibition. He stated, "It's a collection of notes on how to connect painting and exhibitions," raising anticipation for his upcoming projects.
