NCT's Taeil Faces Appeals Court Verdict on Sexual Assault Charges
The appeals court verdict for Taeil, a former member of the group NCT, who is charged with group sexual assault, is set to be announced.

The 11-3 Criminal Division of the Seoul High Court will proceed with the appeals verdict on the 17th for Taeil and two others accused of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (Special Rape).

During the first hearing of the appeal, the prosecution maintained its original demand for a seven-year prison sentence. The prosecution argued, "The crime is severe and the nature of the offense is poor," adding, "Even if the victim agreed, a comprehensive review of the case shows that the first trial was excessively lenient."

Taeil's defense emphasized the agreement with the victim and pleaded for leniency. In his final statement, Taeil expressed, "I am filled with regret and apology for hurting the victim," and added, "I apologize to everyone who is disappointed. If given leniency, I will consider it my last chance and strive to contribute positively to society." It is reported that Taeil submitted a letter of reflection ahead of the verdict.

Taeil is accused of sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman with two acquaintances in June of last year. The charge of special rape applies when two or more individuals engage in sexual intercourse with a person who is unable to resist.

Previously, the 26th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court sentenced Taeil and his two accomplices to three years and six months in prison last July. The court also ordered them to complete 40 hours of a sexual violence treatment program, imposed a five-year employment restriction at institutions related to children and adolescents, and mandated the disclosure of personal information. Although Taeil was initially tried without detention, he was taken into custody following the first trial due to concerns about flight risk.
