K-Pop Star Nam Woo-hyun Cast in Broadway Musical 'Sugar'

Nam Woo-hyun will take on the role of Joe (Josephine) in the Korean premiere of the Broadway classic show musical 'Sugar', which opens on December 12 at the KEPCO Art Center in Seoul.
The musical 'Sugar' is based on the globally beloved comedy film classic 'Some Like It Hot'. Set in the Prohibition era of 1929, it humorously portrays the adventures of two jazz musicians who, after witnessing a gang murder, disguise themselves as women to join an all-female band to save their lives. The original film was named the 'Greatest Comedy Film of All Time' by the American Film Institute (AFI) for its ahead-of-its-time humor and gender codes.
This Korean premiere offers a fresh, modern interpretation of the classic tale, blending the vibrant stage direction and rich live music typical of show musicals with witty dialogue, transporting audiences to the retro mood of the early 20th century. The diverse ensemble of unique characters and top-tier domestic cast promises a performance filled with laughter and emotion, providing a feast for the eyes and ears.
In 'Sugar', Nam Woo-hyun plays the romantic saxophonist Joe (Josephine), who cross-dresses to survive. He is expected to bring depth to the character with his sharp intellect and charmingly unexpected appeal, showcasing a bold transformation in his acting. Anticipation is high for Nam Woo-hyun's unique portrayal.
Nam Woo-hyun made his musical debut in 2012 with 'Gwanghwamun Sonata' and has since been recognized for his outstanding talent in various productions such as 'Barnum: The Greatest Showman', 'The Days', 'Mephisto', 'Jack the Ripper', 'Hourglass', and 'Bloody Love'. Known as the main vocalist of the 'K-pop Legend' group INFINITE, he has solidified his reputation as a 'trustworthy musical actor' with his powerful vocals, dance skills, and nuanced acting.
The musical 'Sugar', featuring Nam Woo-hyun, will run from December 12, 2023, to February 22, 2026, at the KEPCO Art Center in Seoul. Further details regarding ticket reservations will be announced later.
