Korean Entertainer Ahn Sun-young Shares Life in Canada Amidst Challenges

On October 12, Ahn Sun-young posted a video on her Instagram story with the caption, "So much Fun!" She added, "It's my first class, and I was praised for keeping up well. Don't mess with a Korean ajumma (middle-aged woman)..."
The video shows Ahn Sun-young taking a boxing class with a Black coach. Living in Canada, she warned against underestimating her because she is Asian, drawing attention.
Previously, on October 5, Ahn Sun-young revealed on her social media that she experienced discrimination while handling administrative tasks in Canada. She wrote, "Today, I felt the sting of being a foreigner through expressions and gestures. Despite the disregard, I felt the determination of a Korean, but my age and experience allowed me to smile and say, 'OK, I'm Sorry!'"
She expressed her frustration, stating, "I will create a recognizable K-brand here in Canada. To the official, who was clearly an immigrant with a strange accent, your face gave me a new goal beyond just preparing meals for my child."
Ahn Sun-young debuted in 2000 as a comedian with MBC's 11th open recruitment. She married businessman Seo Jung-kwan, three years her junior, in 2013, and they welcomed their son, Seo Baro, in Barcelona in 2016. Ahn Sun-young announced that her son was selected for a local youth ice hockey team, which is difficult even for local children to join. She moved to Canada to support her son, leaving her broadcasting career in Korea, and currently travels between Korea and Canada to care for her mother, who has dementia.
