On the 13th, One Hundred released an official statement acknowledging the situation that has been circulating in the media and various online communities. They stated, "We are aware of the recent controversy surrounding THE BOYZ's Sunwoo and deeply apologize for not managing the issue concerning our artist's character properly."
The agency further explained, "We recognize that Sunwoo's behavior in the video could have sparked the controversy. Sunwoo himself has been calmly reflecting on the matter after communicating with us."
However, the agency expressed regret that the situation has escalated contrary to their and the artist's intentions to reflect and improve. They admitted, "We regret not managing the situation more proactively and the artist's careless actions before the issue arose."
One Hundred emphasized, "All our artists should be managed and protected by the company. The controversy regarding Sunwoo's character is entirely the company's oversight, and the artist is also reflecting on aspects he was previously unaware of. We will do our utmost to prevent such oversights from happening again."
The agency concluded by addressing the spread of baseless malicious comments, stating, "We cannot ignore the situation as it threatens the protection of our artist. We are preparing strong legal action against these comments."
The controversy began when Sunwoo, after a radio broadcast, exclaimed "My AirPods!" when his wireless earbuds fell while moving to an elevator. A security guard picked them up and handed them back to him. Some netizens criticized Sunwoo for not expressing gratitude.
As the video spread across social media, former After School member Nana publicly commented, "He needs to be scolded," which led to further debate among fans and Nana. Nana remarked, "You can tell a lot from one thing," intensifying the controversy.
Sunwoo later clarified on a fan communication platform, "I was confused and didn't realize what had fallen. When I found out it was my AirPods, I exclaimed 'My AirPods!' and looked for them but couldn't find them. I did say 'thank you' when they were handed back to me, even if I didn't bow my head." He acknowledged, "I understand how it could have been perceived that way and will be more mindful in the future."
