Remembering K-Pop Star Goo Hara: 5 Years On and the Legacy of the 'Goo Hara Act'
It has been five years since the tragic passing of K-Pop star Goo Hara, a beloved member of the group KARA.

Goo Hara was found deceased at her home in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam, Seoul, on November 24, 2019, at the age of 28. At the time, police concluded there was no foul play involved based on a note she left and the circumstances at the scene, deciding against an autopsy.

Goo Hara joined KARA in 2008, making her debut in the music industry. She quickly rose to fame with hit songs like 'Pretty Girl,' 'Honey,' 'Mister,' 'Mamma Mia,' 'Lupin,' 'Pandora,' and 'Damaged Lady,' earning immense love from fans. In 2013, she made history as the first Korean female singer to perform at the Tokyo Dome, solidifying her popularity in Japan.

On November 24, 2022, KARA commemorated Goo Hara's anniversary with the release of the album 'MOVE AGAIN' and a first-place trophy on KBS2's 'Music Bank.' Member Kang Ji-young expressed, "Sister! We are here. It's such a wonderful day for us. Can you hear me? This is the moment you wanted. I love you! I miss you." Fellow members Heo Young-ji and Park Gyuri also shared heartfelt messages, saying, "Thank you, beautiful," and "I love you, thank you," respectively. In January of the previous year, KARA received the K-POP Special Award at the 32nd Seoul Music Awards. Han Seung-yeon mentioned, "There is a friend who couldn't be here with us, and I want to accept this award with her," referring to Goo Hara.

In August, the 'Goo Hara Act' was passed by the National Assembly. Goo Hara's brother, Goo Ho-in, shared his joy on social media, writing, "The Goo Hara Act has passed. Finally, it has passed. Hooray!" He added, "Thanks to the collective interest, it has finally passed. Wishing everyone health and happiness during tough times," and expressed his sincere gratitude.

The 'Goo Hara Act' was initiated by Goo Ho-in after the death of his sister in 2019. He petitioned for the law, highlighting the case of their estranged mother, who abandoned Goo Hara as a child, attempting to claim half of her estate. The sudden appearance of Goo Hara's biological mother, asserting her rights to the inheritance, drew public outrage.
