‘Drunk kickboard driving’ BTS Suga apologizes for causing social controversy due to his status as a social worker
Group BTS member Suga (real name Min Yoongi, 31) apologized for drunk driving on an electric scooter.
On the 7th, Suga's agency Big Hit Music apologized, saying, "We apologize in relation to BTS member Suga's electric kickboard accident."
He continued, "On the night of the 6th, while returning home drunk, Suga used an electric kickboard while wearing a helmet. After traveling about 500 meters, he fell while parking. As a result of a breathalyzer test conducted by a police officer nearby, he was fined and his license revoked. “It was canceled,” he explained.
The agency also added, "There was no casualty or property damage in the incident, and the person returned home after being handed over to the police."
Big Hit Music said, "We apologize for disappointing many people due to the artist's inappropriate behavior," and added, "Suga will take any action from his workplace for his actions that caused social controversy as a social worker." Suga is currently working as a social worker and is scheduled to be demobilized in June 2025.
Meanwhile, according to Seoul Yongsan Police Station, Suga was found to have fallen while riding an electric scooter on the street in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu on the night of the 6th. Accordingly, the police investigated and booked him on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving). At the time, Suga's blood alcohol level was confirmed to be at a level that would have resulted in his license being revoked. Below is Big Hit Music’s official statement:
hello.
This is Big Hit Music.
We apologize for BTS member Suga's electric kickboard accident.
On the night of the 6th (Tuesday), while returning home drunk, Suga used an electric kickboard while wearing a helmet. After moving about 500 meters, I fell while parking, and as a result of a breathalyzer test conducted by a nearby police officer, I was fined and my license revoked. There was no casualty or property damage in the incident, and the person returned home after being handed over to the police.
We apologize for disappointing many people due to the artist's inappropriate behavior. As a social worker, I will take any action from my workplace for actions that cause social controversy.
We will be more careful to prevent this from happening in the future.
