MBC Sports Plus announcer Kim Seon-shin (hereinafter referred to as ‘Announcer Kim’) was reported to the police for ‘illegal driving’. The SNS post he posted became a problem. Announcer Kim was driving on the highway with a broken side mirror. Criticism arose for failing to follow even the basics.

On the 2nd, announcer Kim posted a photo on her social media, saying, "(While pulling out a parked car) I heard a bang and thought, 'What is this?' The side mirror was smashed into the parking pillar and shattered."

The released photo shows the side mirror completely bent to the left. Announcer Kim then said, “The left side mirror was such a precious thing,” and “I sacrificed my life to run along Gangbyeonbuk-ro.”

Many people criticized Announcer Kim's actions. According to Article 48, Paragraph 1 of the Road Traffic Act, ‘All drivers must accurately operate the vehicle’s steering, braking, and other devices.’ Ignoring the relevant laws and driving dangerously on roads that are public property was enough to draw criticism.

Announcer Kim personally apologized when the controversy arose. He said, “I was ignorant and immature about road safety,” and added, “I will think carefully and show mature behavior in the future.”

However, a police report has already been filed. Mr. A, a member of the public, announced on the 3rd through the Kookmin Newspaper that he reported Announcer Kim to the Ilsan East Police Station. Mr. A said, “We request that the police impose a fine of 40,000 won on announcer Kim Seon-shin, who violated the Road Traffic Act (safe driving obligation) by driving on Gangbyeonbuk-ro even after the side mirror was damaged.”

Even if it was a crime committed out of ignorance, posting this information on social media brought about even greater repercussions. Self-advertising this situation is like ‘splattering one’s face.’

Previously, there was someone who was on the chopping block for 'careless driving'. Singer Lim Chang-jung's wife, Seo Ha-yan, also became the target of criticism for thoughtlessly posting a photo on social media in April last year. The released photo shows Seo Ha-yan driving and her two sons not wearing seat belts.

According to Article 50 of the Road Traffic Act, not only drivers but also passengers must wear seat belts on all roads, and those who violate this must pay a fine of 30,000 won. In addition, according to Article 49 of the Road Traffic Act, using a cell phone while driving is also against the law, and if caught, 15 demerit points will be imposed and a fine of 70,000 won for vans, 60,000 won for passenger cars, and 40,000 won for two-wheeled vehicles will be imposed.

SNS is both a private space and a place for everyone to see. In particular, if you are a person whose job involves communicating with the public, you should consider the influence and ripple effect of your post. Prior to this, you must always have a law-abiding spirit to always follow the law, even if it seems trivial.
