The latest episode of JTBC's 'Divorce Retreat Camp' revealed the struggles of a couple dealing with patriarchal views and financial disputes.
On the episode aired on the 30th, the show featured an 8-year married couple with three children, known as the 'Talkative Couple'.
Park Ha-sun observed, “Unhappy families are all alike. The wife here seems so pitiful,” as she watched the situation unfold.
In the video, the wife exposed her 33-year-old husband's patriarchal mindset, stating, “He thinks men work outside and women handle household chores.”
She continued, “Even just a generation ago, it was common for men to be patriarchal and live traditionally. In our family, the man is the pillar.”
The husband justified prioritizing personal time over childcare by saying, “Personal time is essential to be a family member.”
He was seen bringing friends home for drinks late at night while his wife and children were asleep in the bedroom.
Park Ha-sun reacted, “I really hate that,” criticizing the husband's philosophy of only drinking at his own home to avoid imposing on others.
The next morning, when the husband's friend was seen opening the couple's bedroom door, Seo Jang-hoon criticized the irresponsible behavior, saying, “I feel sorry for the kids.”
The wife also revealed issues with their financial management. The husband earns 4 million won a month, while the wife earns 2.5 million won, yet she spends about 1 million won more on living expenses.
She lamented, “My husband spends 100,000 to 150,000 won a month on alcohol. I only drink a 2,000 won coffee every morning, yet he complains about it. Even if I drink it every day, it’s only 60,000 won a month, while he spends 60,000 won in one night out.”
The husband suggested she use a coffee machine instead, which was a gift from her family. Seo Jang-hoon advised, “Sell the coffee machine.”
Seo Jang-hoon criticized, “How can he complain about her 2,000 won coffee while spending 150,000 won himself? It’s hypocritical. He should reflect on his actions.”
Seeing the wife accept the situation, Seo Jang-hoon remarked, “She’s living her life in self-denial,” while Jin Tae-hyun expressed surprise at her understanding of her husband.
Park Ha-sun also expressed frustration, saying, “Why don’t you tell him to cut down too?”
