Former Country Kko Kko Singer Shin Jung-hwan Embraces New Life as Restaurant Owner
On the 29th, Shin appeared on the 'Human Story' channel, revealing his daily routine of running a restaurant in Gunja-dong, Seoul.
Driving a compact car to work, Shin reminisced, “I was probably the second person to drive a white Benz when Andre Kim was alive.”
He reflected on his past, saying, “I drove many nice cars, including sports cars. It was important to be seen by others.”
Shin expressed satisfaction with his lifestyle change after switching to a compact car, stating, “It's so convenient. There are many benefits, and parking is much quicker.”
He added, “I'm not at an age where I need to impress anyone,” but admitted, “Honestly, I still want to drive a big car,” while acknowledging, “The era of doing business based solely on image is over.”
He shared a story about turning down franchise offers during his peak, saying, “People around me advised against it, fearing it would harm my image. I regret not taking those opportunities.”
Regarding his 16-year hiatus, Shin admitted, “I avoided crowded places and sat with my back to others in restaurants because I brought it upon myself.” He became emotional when discussing his family.
Upon encountering 20-something customers who didn't recognize him, Shin felt relieved, saying, “Despite gaining weight, people really like it. I might be the first celebrity to experience this.”
He concluded, “Over 5, 10, 15 years, I've become more resilient. The phrase 'This too shall pass' has been most helpful. I vow not to let my remaining life fade.”
In 2010, Shin was convicted of overseas gambling charges and sentenced to eight months in prison. He was paroled in December 2011.
