Comedian Shin Gi-ru Opens Up About Grieving Her Mother's Passing


Comedian Shin Gi-ru recently shared her emotional journey following the passing of her mother.

On the 29th, a video titled 'Holding Back Tears While Eating Iron Plate Chicken (Update and Gratitude)' was uploaded to the YouTube channel 'Anything with Gi-ru.' In the video, Shin Gi-ru appeared in front of the camera for the first time in about a month and cautiously began to speak.

She said, "It's been a month since I last filmed, and I've been through a major event," adding, "My mom was sick, but I didn't expect her to pass away so soon." She continued, "I was shocked and struggled, wondering if I could return to work. I found myself crying without reason," she recalled.

Despite advice from those around her, she confessed that her emotions were not easily soothed. "Some people told me to take a break, while others said working might help ease the pain," she shared. "Having experienced it, I don't think it's something that just gets better. It's a sorrow I have to carry within me," she added. "I'm not forcing myself; I'm just taking it day by day."

She also detailed her immediate actions following her mother's passing. "At first, I tried to hold back tears, but it became overwhelming, so I went to Sokcho alone," she said. "Both my body and mind were in pain, and by the second day, it was unbearable. I visited a hospital and extended my stay."

Shin Gi-ru revealed that she also faced health issues. "For the first time in my life, I lost my sense of smell. I couldn't taste anything," she said. "Looking back, I think it was COVID-19. I lost 4kg because I couldn't eat for three days," she shared, evoking sympathy. She added with a bittersweet smile, "Not drinking alcohol for six days brightened my complexion."

She expressed gratitude for the support she received during the funeral. "I was so thankful for the people who kept coming to the funeral hall," Shin Gi-ru said. "When I checked my account, I saw that many people I hadn't even met or thanked had sent condolence money." She specifically mentioned Lee Yoon-seok, expressing her appreciation.

In conclusion, she said, "This isn't something that gets better with time; it's an emotion I have to carry with me," she conveyed calmly. "Still, I'm enduring each day."
