Go Yoon-jung's Captivating Performance in 'Fighting Against One's Worthlessness' Garners Praise

Actress Go Yoon-jung is delivering a standout performance in the JTBC weekend drama 'Fighting Against One's Worthlessness.' The drama recorded a nationwide viewership rating of 2.2% for both its first and second episodes, according to Nielsen Korea.

In 'Fighting Against One's Worthlessness' (directed by Cha Young-hoon, written by Park Hae-young, produced by Studio Phoenix, SLL, and Studio Flow), Go Yoon-jung plays the role of 'Byun Eun-ah.' Within just two episodes, she has captivated audiences with her unique ability to convey a multitude of emotions in silence. Her restrained performance, which internalizes rather than externalizes turbulent emotions, has brought depth to the character's inner world.

Byun Eun-ah is a character who does not shed a tear even in the face of extreme anxiety. Instead, her suppressed emotions reach a breaking point and manifest as a nosebleed. Go Yoon-jung has been praised for capturing the paradoxical yearning for life amidst despair through her expressive eyes.

Moreover, even in moments without dialogue, her detailed portrayal through fleeting glances and breaths has richly completed the character's inner world. "Since the character has many moments of silence, I worked hard to fill those spaces solidly, hoping that Byun Eun-ah's sharpness would convey not just strength but also the underlying anxiety and wounds," Go Yoon-jung shared, highlighting her intense dedication.

Director Cha Young-hoon also praised Go Yoon-jung's performance, stating, "Go Yoon-jung's eyes are incredibly deep. Early in the filming, I felt as if I was being drawn into them," and added, "I was curious about what experiences she might have had to express such deep and profound emotions."

Go Yoon-jung's 'eye narrative' has further shone in her chemistry with co-star Koo Kyo-hwan. "Koo Kyo-hwan's diverse acting kept me engaged, leading to natural reactions in each cut," Go Yoon-jung noted. Byun Eun-ah's silent support for the anxiety-ridden Hwang Dong-man has become a powerful presence. Additionally, even amidst the desire for self-destruction, her newfound resolve to "fight" has strengthened her emotional bond with Hwang Dong-man.

Byun Eun-ah's transformation of everyone's worthlessness into 'worthiness' serves as a profound comfort to viewers weary of reality. As Go Yoon-jung captures even the subtle tremors beneath the surface, anticipation builds for the brilliant journey she and Hwang Dong-man will embark on together.

'Fighting Against One's Worthlessness' airs every Saturday at 10:40 PM and Sunday at 10:30 PM on JTBC.
