Yoon Soo-hyun Fulfills Three Generations of Dreams to Become a Singer

Singer Yoon Soo-hyun has realized a dream that spanned three generations.

On the morning of the 15th, Yoon Soo-hyun appeared as a contestant on KBS 1TV's 'Morning Forum' segment 'Challenge! Dream Stage'.

Yoon shared the story behind her journey to becoming a singer, stating, "Becoming a singer was a significant event, fulfilling a dream that had accumulated over three generations." She continued, "My maternal grandfather was originally from Pyongyang. His sister was a well-known dance director there. My grandfather dreamed of becoming a singer and would sing and dance with his sister." However, "When the Korean War broke out, my grandfather had to leave his mother and sister in the North and come to the South alone. After that, the dream of becoming a singer was a luxury he couldn't afford as he struggled to make ends meet," she revealed. "He would often sing, shedding tears as he thought of his mother and sister left behind in the North."

Yet, the 'singer DNA' couldn't be hidden. Yoon explained, "Perhaps inheriting that talent, my mother was exceptionally good at singing and dancing. My grandfather tried to make her a singer, seeking out composers everywhere." Unfortunately, "They were scammed out of a significant amount of money by a composer. Eventually, my mother became a regular housewife. My grandfather passed away without seeing his daughter fulfill the dream of becoming a singer and resolving his and his sister's unfulfilled aspirations."

Ultimately, Yoon Soo-hyun fulfilled the dreams of her grandfather and mother. She recounted, "When I was six, my mother was surprised to hear me sing the late Song Dae-gwan's 'Four Beats' so mournfully. After getting married, she never imagined the dream of becoming a singer would be revived through me." She continued, "One day, when I was in college, my mother saw a college student trot singing contest on an MBC TV commercial and urged me, as if to resolve the family's unfulfilled dreams, 'Soo-hyun, why don't you give it a try?' So, I sang diligently to fulfill the dreams of my grandfather, great-aunt, and mother. The result was that I won the grand prize."

Yoon Soo-hyun beamed, "Finally, the long-held dream of becoming a singer, spanning three generations—my grandfather, great-aunt, mother, and myself—has been realized." She added, "I will pour the energy of three generations into bringing happiness to the viewers of 'Morning Forum' with great performances and songs. I will do my best," she declared enthusiastically.

Yoon Soo-hyun lifted the mood with her bright and energetic performance of 'Cheontaemansang'.
