'The King and the Man' Surpasses 15.67 Million Viewers, Secures Box Office Top Spot

The film 'The King and the Man' directed by Jang Hang-jun has surpassed 15.67 million viewers, with cumulative earnings exceeding 151.2 billion KRW.

According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network, 'The King and the Man' maintained its number one position at the box office on the 30th, drawing 60,602 viewers that day, bringing its total audience to 15,676,534.

On the 6th, 'The King and the Man' became the 34th film in history to reach 10 million viewers. It has also surpassed 'Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds' (2017, 14.41 million viewers) to become the third highest-grossing film of all time. The all-time number one is 'The Admiral: Roaring Currents' (2014, 17.61 million viewers), followed by 'Extreme Job' (2019, 16.26 million viewers). The gap with the second place is approximately 590,000 viewers.

Set in 1457 Cheongryeongpo, 'The King and the Man' tells the story of a village chief who exiles himself for the prosperity of his village and a young dethroned king in exile. The film stars Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae, and Jeon Mi-do.

In second place at the box office was 'Project Hail Mary' directed by Phil Lord, which attracted 42,581 viewers in a day, with a cumulative audience of 1,193,275.

'Project Hail Mary' follows Grace (Ryan Gosling), who wakes up alone in the middle of space without memory, tasked with a final mission to save humanity from impending doom. The film stars Ryan Gosling and Sandra Wheeler.

Ranking third was the animation 'Detective Conan: The Last Wizard of the Century' directed by Kenji Kodama, which added 3,715 viewers for a total of 55,647.

Other films in the top five include 'Salmoji' directed by Lee Sang-min in fourth place, and 'Demon Slayer: Mugen Train' directed by Haruo Sotozaki in fifth.

As of 8 a.m. on the 31st, the real-time reservation rate ranked 'Project Hail Mary' first, followed by 'The King and the Man' in second, and 'The Last Song You Left' in third.
