SLL's 'Rebound' Set for Re-Release Amidst Rising Interest in Production Company's Filmography
Following the success of 'The King and the Clown' (directed by Jang Hang-jun), which surpassed 15 million viewers, there is a growing trend of revisiting the production company's previous works, a phenomenon known as 'filmography reverse running'. This trend reflects a shift in audience consumption patterns, extending interest from a single successful work to the creators and production companies behind them. SLL commented, "This re-release serves as an opportunity to reaffirm BA Entertainment's exceptional planning and insight."
'Rebound' is expected to be more than just a re-release; it is anticipated to highlight the film's value anew. Upon its initial release, the film was praised for its moving story based on true events and the passionate performances of its cast, achieving a 98% rating on CGV Golden Egg Index. The re-release will provide another chance for audiences to experience the film.
This trend is not new to the film industry. After the success of Bong Joon-ho's 'Parasite', 'Memories of Murder' was re-released, and following the success of 'Top Gun: Maverick', the original 'Top Gun' also saw renewed interest. These instances demonstrate how a hit film can lead to increased consumption of past works.
An SLL representative stated, "The success of one work leading to interest in a production company's entire portfolio is another indicator of content competitiveness," adding that they plan to continue engaging audiences with diverse genres and stories.
'Rebound' will be re-released on April 3. The film is based on the true story of a struggling high school basketball team on the brink of disbandment achieving miraculous success at the national high school basketball tournament. The cast includes Ahn Jae-hong, Lee Shin-young, Jung Jin-woon, Kim Taek, Jung Geon-joo, Kim Min, and Ahn Ji-ho.
