EBS Launches 'Parents' First Sex Education' with Hosts Lee Ji-hye and Sam Hammington

Lee Ji-hye, a mother of two daughters, and Sam Hammington, a father of two sons, are set to host EBS's new program, 'Parents' First Sex Education.' The show, which is scheduled to premiere on March 30th at 10:50 PM on EBS 1TV, aims to address the challenges and changes in sex education for children.

'Parents' First Sex Education' is a talk show format that tackles children's questions about sex and the everyday dilemmas parents face regarding sex education. Lee Ji-hye and Sam Hammington will lead the program, sharing their personal parenting experiences combined with expert insights to provide practical sex education guidelines for parents.

The program first aired as a special during the Lunar New Year holiday, highlighting the gap in sex education since the era of educator Koo Sung-ae and emphasizing the need for updated parental sex education. The special received positive feedback from parents for delivering relevant sex education knowledge.

Lee Ji-hye, taking on her first solo MC role with EBS, shared that the special episode led to changes at home. She recounted how her husband used to kiss their children even when they expressed discomfort. After learning from Professor Bae Jung-eun that respecting a child's 'no' is crucial, her husband now asks, "Can I kiss you?" before doing so. Lee emphasized the importance of respecting a child's boundaries.

Sam Hammington, who married in 2013, also found the program beneficial for parenting. He shared experiences of his children asking questions about sexual content they encountered in media, highlighting the challenge of explaining such topics at a child's level. After the special, he became more conscious of boundaries and respect in physical interactions with his children, acknowledging the importance of respecting their comfort levels.

Both hosts hope 'Parents' First Sex Education' will be a learning resource for parents. Lee Ji-hye noted that while parents often turn to YouTube or the internet for information, the mixed content can be confusing. She believes the program's expert-driven approach will provide clearer, more detailed guidance. She stressed the importance of parents being prepared and expressed her hope that the show will help parents become more equipped.

Sam Hammington echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that sex education is evolving and parents must continue to learn. He realized that the methods he learned in the past differ from what is needed today, urging parents not to rely on outdated standards. He invited viewers to learn alongside him as a fellow parent.

'Parents' First Sex Education,' a program designed for today's parents, will premiere on March 30th at 10:50 PM on EBS 1TV.
