KBS1's New Drama 'Our Happy Days' Promises Healing Over Sensationalism

KBS1's new daily drama 'Our Happy Days' has chosen healing over sensationalism. With actors Uhm Hyun-kyung and Yoon Jong-hoon leading the cast, the team expressed confidence, saying, "The Avengers have assembled," and "Surpassing a 20% viewership rating is a given."

On the 30th, an online production presentation for 'Our Happy Days' was held. Attendees included actors Yoon Jong-hoon, Uhm Hyun-kyung, Jung Yoon, Yoon Da-young, Kim Hye-ok, Sunwoo Jae-deok, Yoon Da-hoon, Moon Hee-kyung, Lee Sang-sook, Jung Ho-bin, and director Lee Jae-sang.

'Our Happy Days' centers around a life-and-death struggle between the world's most perfect man and a clumsy woman, while depicting the stories of various generations striving to become the protagonists of their own lives.

Uhm Hyun-kyung plays Jo Eun-ae, a developer and co-CEO of the startup Lucky Joy. She shared, "It's my first time playing a developer. I knew nothing about AI, so I initially struggled with even short terms like IoT (Internet of Things). I made efforts to learn the terminology by asking around."

Having announced the birth of her son in 2024, Uhm Hyun-kyung returns with this project, marking her comeback to KBS after about six years since 'Secret Man' in 2020. She expressed, "I'm happy to be back at KBS after such a long time. Previously, I did a lot of revenge dramas, but in 'Our Happy Days,' I get to portray a warm family dynamic," she laughed.

Uhm Hyun-kyung shares a romantic storyline with Yoon Jong-hoon in this drama. She said, "When I heard Yoon Jong-hoon was cast as my counterpart, I thought, 'This is it. This is the Avengers.' With a great director and writer, I was sure it would be a good drama."

Yoon Jong-hoon plays Go Gyeol, a talented architect and team leader at Kangsoo Construction's strategic planning department. He explained, "My synchronization with the perfect man Go Gyeol is 0%, but I share 100% of his warmth. I tried to portray a cool city man by not being swayed by trivial emotions."

He also shared his thoughts on working with Uhm Hyun-kyung. Yoon Jong-hoon said, "I was honored to hear I would be acting with her. It felt like a career milestone." He added, "Having seen director Lee Jae-sang and writer Nam Sun-hye's works, there was no reason not to choose this project."

Yoon Da-hoon plays Go Dae-chi, the husband of Eun Soo-jung (played by Moon Hee-kyung). He stated, "The previous work recorded a 13-14% viewership rating. I want to create an even richer and more entertaining project, aiming to surpass 20%."

Yoon Da-hoon continued, "Our drama is never sensational. We aimed to create a show that families can watch together. We've put a lot of effort into making a healthy drama, so we ask for your interest."

Director Lee Jae-sang, who helmed the project, said, "We worked hard to create the best possible work with an unimaginably small budget. I want to thank the staff and actors." He added, "Casting is always a challenge, but this time it was the best of the best. We hardly deviated from our top-choice actors."

Director Lee emphasized, "The core of this work is 'empathy.' We've incorporated various emotions felt in daily life into the story. The key point of the drama is making everyone feel, 'This is my story.'"

'Our Happy Days' premieres at 8:30 PM today.
