'The King and the Man' Nears 15 Million Viewers, Dominates Box Office

The film 'The King and the Man' directed by Jang Hang-jun is on the verge of reaching 15 million viewers, having already surpassed 14.92 million.

According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network, 'The King and the Man' maintained its top position at the box office on the 24th, drawing 78,569 viewers that day, with a cumulative audience of 14,921,384.

The film became the 34th movie in history to surpass 10 million viewers on the 6th of this month. It has also overtaken 'Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds' (2017, 14.41 million) to become the third highest-grossing film of all time. The top spot is held by 'The Admiral: Roaring Currents' (2014, 17.61 million), followed by 'Extreme Job' (2019, 16.26 million), with a gap of approximately 1.34 million between 'Extreme Job' and 'The King and the Man'.

Set in 1457 Cheongryeongpo, 'The King and the Man' tells the story of a village chief who voluntarily exiles himself for the prosperity of his village and a young dethroned king in exile. The film stars Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae, and Jeon Mi-do.

In second place at the box office was 'Project Hail Mary' directed by Phil Lord, which attracted 40,101 viewers in a day, with a total audience of 644,021.

'Project Hail Mary' follows the journey of Grace (Ryan Gosling), who wakes up alone in the middle of space with no memory, tasked with a final mission to save humanity from an apocalyptic threat. The film stars Ryan Gosling and Sandra Wheeler.

Ranking third was the animation 'Hoppers' directed by Daniel Chong, which drew 4,280 viewers in a day, with a total audience of 654,567.

'Hoppers' is a Pixar animal adventure where a girl named Mabel, transformed into a robot beaver through the 'Hopping' technology that transfers human consciousness into animal robots, embarks on an unexpected adventure in the animal world.

Other films in the top five include 'Method Acting' directed by Lee Ki-hyuk in fourth place, and 'Sal Mok Ji' directed by Lee Sang-min, which held a pre-release screening, in fifth place.

As of 9 a.m. on the 25th, the real-time reservation rate was led by 'Project Hail Mary' in first place, followed by 'The King and the Man' in second, and 'Demon Slayer: Mugen Train' in third.
