Heartfelt Journey of 'Mongle Counseling Center' Concludes with Newfound Love and Growth

After 14 years of marriage, Lee Hyori and Lee Sang-soon's SBS special 'Mongle Counseling Center' has come to an end.

The third episode of 'My Heart is Mongle Mongle - Mongle Counseling Center' aired on the 22nd, wrapping up the 8-week journey of the 'Mongle' participants as they embarked on their first romantic experiences. Through new encounters and the process of understanding and caring for others, the participants showed significant growth, touching the hearts of viewers.

The date between Jung Ji-won and Song Do-ah on Nami Island was full of unexpected moments. Jung Ji-won, who felt secure following a pre-planned course, clashed with Song Do-ah, who had her own desires for the Chuncheon trip. When Song Do-ah insisted on eating marshmallows, saying, “We must eat them,” Jung Ji-won firmly stuck to his plan, causing Song Do-ah to tear up. After a discussion with the production team, Jung Ji-won comforted Song Do-ah, wiping her tears, in a scene reminiscent of a romantic comedy. Lee Hyori commented, “They are an unpredictable couple,” and noted, “There was a slight crisis, but they grew closer,” with a smile.

Yoo Ji-hoon ended his meeting with Jeon So-yeon. Although they grew closer while holding hands and skating, misunderstandings and awkwardness drove them apart. Yoo Ji-hoon apologized, saying, “I’m sorry for going ahead earlier. Don’t be upset because of me.” Lee Hyori and Lee Sang-soon expressed regret over his unexpressed feelings. Later, Lee Hyori comforted Yoo Ji-hoon through yoga, encouraging him, “With more experience, you’ll find that things aren’t as bad as they seem.”

Yoo Ji-hoon's mother reflected, “I sometimes wondered if Ji-hoon could function in society,” as she taught him about human psychology and expressions. Thanks to her efforts, Yoo Ji-hoon gradually learned and, after starting blind dates, practiced being independent, showing he could do more on his own.

Yoo Ji-hoon's second blind date was with the lovely Lee Joo-hyun. Yoo Ji-hoon smiled brightly at their shared interests, such as favorite seasons and comics, surprising Lee Hyori and Lee Sang-soon with his compliments. Lee Hyori remarked, “It’s the first time I’ve seen Ji-hoon smile like that,” and observed, “They have a unique connection.”

The 'Mongle' participants, initially inexperienced, grew through advice from counselors Lee Hyori and Lee Sang-soon, as well as experts, learning about dating etiquette, introspection, romance, and physical affection. Lee Hyori expressed her hope, “I wish for the love of our Mongle participants to blossom.”

Park Jun-hyuk’s promise to confess his feelings next time added to the anticipation, prompting Lee Hyori to comment, “It’s more thrilling than a confession. It’s beautiful.”

Oh Ji-hyun, who started dating, shared, “This is what dating feels like, it’s so sweet,” expressing her excitement. What special meaning did 'Mongle Counseling Center' leave behind?

'Mongle Counseling Center' authentically captured the moments of excitement and growth through the first romances of young adults with developmental disabilities, leaving a warm impression as it concluded its journey. The stories of the Mongle participants, though awkward, were pure and sincere, resonating deeply with viewers and raising anticipation for the next chapter of their youth.

As the first domestic reality show to depict the romantic lives of young adults with developmental disabilities, 'Mongle Counseling Center' portrayed them as 'ordinary youth' experiencing the brightest moments of their lives. Rather than dramatizing them as protagonists, it authentically depicted their excitement, disappointment, and courage, fostering empathy. By bravely bringing the lives, romance, and love of young adults with developmental disabilities to the forefront, it gently dismantled viewers’ prejudices and offered a new perspective and meaningful discourse needed in society, leaving a lasting impression.
