Comedian Shim Hyun-seop (55) and his wife Jeong Young-rim (44) have faced a setback in their IVF journey.
On the October 23rd episode of TV Chosun's variety show 'Joseon's Love Conquerors,' the second part of the 'Love Tree Special Forces' trip was aired, featuring couples Shim Hyun-seop & Jeong Young-rim, Bae Ki-sung & Lee Eun-bi, and Yoon Jung-soo & Won Jin-seo as they traveled to Gyeongju to prepare for their future children.
During dinner, Jeong Young-rim excused herself to administer her IVF medication. Shim Hyun-seop explained, "Because we're undergoing IVF, my wife needs to take her medication at this time and then lie down for 30 minutes." Previously, Jeong had mentioned to Shim, "I think I need a sanitary pad. There shouldn't be any bleeding, but there is," indicating a complication.
Shim Hyun-seop shared his concerns, "Last winter, Young-rim told me something sad. She said we don't have much time left because of our age." Jeong Young-rim had even quit her job of 16 years to focus on the IVF process.
The following day, the couple visited the hospital for a pregnancy test. Jeong expressed, "My stomach hurts. It's not that my heart is troubled. Maybe I'm just pretending to be okay."
Jeong Young-rim reflected, "I worked too hard in the past. I should have taken better care of myself in my 30s, but I pushed myself too much." Shim comforted her, holding her hand, and said, "Seeing you struggle made me question if we should continue with IVF. It was very complicated."
After the consultation, Jeong revealed, "It seems I'm not pregnant this time." She added, "They said we should try again next month. When I asked if we could start immediately, they said there's no time to waste because of my age."
