Actor Kim Seok-hoon (53) reveals his experience with mysterious headaches.
On the October 22nd episode of SBS's 'Three Perspectives,' the show delves into how small bacteria in our gut can impact brain health and how these tiny organisms can alter our memory and thinking.
Docent Lee Chang-yong begins by discussing the demise of Friedrich Nietzsche, a 19th-century philosopher known for his profound thoughts. Nietzsche reportedly had over 20 hospital admissions due to ailments like hemorrhoids, stomach cramps, and abdominal pain. Lee explains, "Nietzsche began to view indigestion and intestinal issues as a philosophical stance."
Environmental safety engineering professor Kwak Jae-sik lightens the mood with a fun mission, likening the communication line between the gut and brain to the task, suggesting constant interaction between the two organs. He adds, "The gut environment can also harm the brain," comparing the gut to a 'massive biochemical factory' to emphasize the potential danger.
Pharmacist Yang Gwa-ja highlights the close relationship between the gut and fungi, warning that ignorance of this link could mean missing the chance to prevent dementia. She asks if anyone has experienced headaches in long-abandoned or underground spaces. Actor Kim Seok-hoon recalls filming in a cave, saying, "I remember having headaches and feeling unwell throughout the shoot," surprising everyone.
Docent Lee Chang-yong also shares, "When I lived in a moldy house in Paris, I felt suffocated and had headaches, but felt better once outside." Internal medicine specialist Lee Dong-hyung emphasizes the gut-brain connection, explaining, "Some studies suggest that fungal components from the gut can travel to the brain, settle in its folds, and cause damage," heightening the tension.
Join MC Kim Seok-hoon, So Seul-ji, science writer Kwak Jae-sik, docent Lee Chang-yong, internal medicine specialist Lee Dong-hyung, and pharmacist Yang Gwa-ja as they explore the 'early warnings from the gut' from three perspectives in the 35th episode of 'Three Perspectives,' airing at 8:35 AM.
