Renowned for her groundbreaking and often controversial dramas, writer Phoebe (Im Sung-han) is set to debut her first medical thriller, 'Doctor Shin,' on March 14. The new weekend mini-series will air on TV CHOSUN at 10:30 PM.
'Doctor Shin' explores the story of a genius doctor challenging the realm of the divine and a woman whose brain deteriorates overnight, losing her soul. The drama delves into a bizarre romance involving a top star in a coma, the man who loved her, and the man who loves her now.
Phoebe, known for her works like 'See and See Again,' 'Heaven's Fate,' 'Mermaid Lady,' 'New Tales of Gisaeng,' and the record-breaking 'Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce),' ventures into the medical thriller genre for the first time. Her previous fantasy melodrama 'Lady Durian' received explosive responses for its portrayal of transcendent fate across time and space.
'Doctor Shin' poses the question, "When we love someone, is it their soul or body we love? What if another soul inhabits the body of the person we love?" Phoebe's imaginative storytelling intertwines brain change, forbidden love, desire, and sacrifice, leading to a shocking climax.
Phoebe has consistently flipped the script with her unique narratives. In 'Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce),' she introduced AI, while 'Lady Durian' explored past and present lives.
However, 'Lady Durian' faced criticism for its unconventional themes, such as same-sex relationships and romances with significant age gaps, resulting in low ratings. Its premiere recorded a 4.2% viewership, the lowest for a TV CHOSUN drama, peaking at only 8.1%.
The production team stated, "Phoebe offers unpredictable imagination, delivering powerful shocks, deep addiction, and unique messages in every work. 'Doctor Shin' will be an unprecedented medical thriller, reaching the pinnacle of shock."
'Doctor Shin' will be available simultaneously on TV CHOSUN and Coupang Play.
