Choi Ga-on has made history by winning South Korea's first-ever gold medal in the Winter Olympics for ski and snowboard.
On the early morning of the 13th, Choi Ga-on scored 90.25 points in the women's snowboard halfpipe final at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, held at the Livigno Snowpark in Italy, surpassing Chloe Kim's 88.00 points to claim the top spot.
Despite mistakes in her first two runs, Choi Ga-on achieved a score of 90.25 in her third and final run. In the first run of the finals, she suffered a major fall during the landing after a jump, and mistakes continued in the second run. However, she soared to a height of 3.1 meters in the third run, securing her victory.
This gold medal marks the first for the South Korean team in this competition and is the first Winter Olympic gold in the history of South Korean skiing. At 17 years old, Choi Ga-on has also set a new record as the youngest gold medalist.
Choi Ga-on previously appeared on the show 'Capture the Moment, How Is That Possible?' in 2017, where she expressed her dream of becoming a national athlete.
