The marriage life of former MLB player Kim Byung-hyun, who tied the knot in 2010, was revealed for the first time.
On the October 10th episode of SBS's variety show 'Same Bed, Different Dreams 2', a special segment titled 'Boss Couples Relay Special' was aired to support small business owners struggling in the economic downturn of 2026. Actor Cha Tae-hyun, who recently founded an agency with his close friend, actor Jo In-sung, appeared as a special MC.
Cha Tae-hyun shared, “Thankfully, it's been a year and we haven't faced any losses, so we even gave out bonuses. It felt rewarding.” He humorously added, “But I should have calculated better. I ended up giving too much, and the managers were like, 'We don't think we deserve this much.'”
The first couple featured in the 'Boss Couples Relay Special' and the 100th 'fate couple' was Kim Byung-hyun. Having experienced the closure of eleven businesses, including a Japanese restaurant, steakhouse, Thai restaurant, and burger joint, Kim was asked if he had spent his MLB earnings on these ventures. He replied, “I spent some, but not half. If it were half, I'd be out on the streets.”
Kim revealed he is now venturing into a sausage business as his 12th attempt. When asked about his wife's reaction to his serial entrepreneurship, he admitted, “My wife doesn't know much. I only show her the good parts,” surprising everyone with the revelation that he hadn't informed her about his ventures.
Kim expressed his discomfort, saying, “Do I really have to do the interview with her? Can't I do it alone?” When questioned about not sharing photos of his wife on social media, he explained, “I wasn't hiding her. We just lived our own lives.” In contrast, his wife, Han Kyung-min, revealed, “I often wondered if he was ashamed of me. He barely introduced me to his friends and didn't want a wedding with guests.”
Han Kyung-min expressed her biggest grievance, saying, “I hear about the opening and closing of businesses or his filming schedules through friends or news.” She added, “I came on 'Same Bed, Different Dreams 2' to question if others live like this and how long I should continue trusting him.”
The couple's daily life video, aired for the first time, showcased their 'expression differences.' Han Kyung-min said, “I used to love expressing myself, but I changed after meeting my husband. He doesn't let me.” Kim explained, “I want to express myself, but as a pitcher, I was taught to maintain a poker face, so it's difficult and unfamiliar.” Han recalled, “You used to hug me at traffic lights when we were dating,” but Kim shyly feigned ignorance.
The couple, who met through mutual friends, had differing first impressions. Kim said it was love at first sight, while Han thought, “He seemed messy and not my type.” When asked why she married him, Han shared, “A friend said, 'Kim hasn't slept or eaten for three days. Please help him.'”
She continued, “He was supposed to go to the U.S. a week later, and I thought it was good timing. But then he called saying he returned to Korea for me, which opened my heart.” Han added, “He was pure and simple, and he wrote me many letters, showing immense love.”
Han revealed, “He once told me, 'If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have married and might have died alone.' It made me think our marriage was a turning point and a positive influence for him.” Kim, reflecting on his tough times in the U.S., said, “I'm sorry for being bad at expressing myself, but my wife helped me decide to play baseball again.”
Kim admitted, “I've faced life's waves, and there are many times I feel sorry.” Han, moved by her husband's struggles, shed tears, saying, “He seems foolish but is deep inside. I hope he succeeds, not just because he's family.” Kim, though reserved, comforted his wife in his way, and Han smiled brightly.
