In episodes 11 and 12 of KBS 2TV's weekend mini-series 'Beloved Thief,' aired on the 7th and 8th, Han Ji-hye's character, previously shrouded in mystery as a nun, was unveiled as 'Lady Hong,' a concubine of the former king.
Han Ji-hye captivated audiences as she shed her nun's attire for a regal gown, exuding an overwhelming presence. Her character, who had retreated to a monastic life after losing her son, Prince Yeonghu, to King Lee Gyu (played by Ha Seok-jin), was revealed to be the mastermind behind a meticulously planned coup, heightening the drama's tension.
Lady Hong declared, “The prince who will ascend our throne is Yi Yeol, Prince Dowol,” taking the lead in orchestrating the rebellion. She justified her choice of Yi Yeol (played by Moon Sang-min) by stating, “He possesses compassion for the people, something the current king lacks,” and demonstrated her strategic prowess by recognizing the romantic bond between Yi Yeol and Hong Eun-jo (played by Nam Ji-hyun).
When Hong Eun-jo, who embodies Yi Yeol's spirit, expressed concern over their small faction's potential defeat, Lady Hong resolutely stated, “Even so, we fight. Even if our end is death,” showcasing her determined resolve. Han Ji-hye skillfully portrayed the character's hidden sharpness behind a gentle smile, completing her portrayal of a woman determined to change the throne's occupant with restrained performance.
Han Ji-hye seamlessly transitioned between displaying authority in front of ministers and soft charisma with Hong Eun-jo, exemplifying perfect control of her character's dynamics. Her stellar performance, supported by a well-rounded narrative, has left viewers eagerly anticipating how Lady Hong's schemes will impact Yi Yeol and Hong Eun-jo.
Meanwhile, episode 12 of KBS 2TV's 'Beloved Thief' achieved a personal best rating of 7.3%, airing every Saturday and Sunday at 9:20 PM on KBS 2TV.
