Actress Cha Joo-young Reveals Her New York Experience and Father’s Reaction During Her Study Abroad
Actress Cha Joo-young has opened up about her experiences with her father during her study abroad and her time living in New York.
On the 27th, Cha Joo-young appeared as a guest on singer Sung Si-kyung's YouTube channel.
In the video, Cha Joo-young discussed her conservative family background and revealed that she went abroad to study due to her father's opposition to a career in the arts.
Regarding her college decision, Cha stated, "I wanted to live in big cities like New York or California, but I ended up attending the University of Utah." She explained, "My father was fully supporting me financially, so I had no intention of going against his wishes," adding, "I eventually graduated from college."
She also shared her experiences of living in New York for a year after graduation. Cha Joo-young said, "I lived in New York for a year on a visa that allowed me to work," and recalled, "I applied to a major bank as a formality. At the time, my father was skeptical, asking, 'Do you think you'll get hired?'"
She confessed that her real intention for moving to New York was to enjoy life in a big city rather than to find employment. Cha Joo-young revealed, "I planned to enjoy life in Manhattan with a secure status," and added, "I lived in the heart of Manhattan, funding it with money I had saved from my tuition during my study abroad."
When host Sung Si-kyung expressed concern about broadcasting her statements, Cha Joo-young clarified, "My father already knows everything."
She shared, "After my study abroad, my father had all the records of the money he sent," and added, "He said, 'The tuition was this much, but didn't you ask for more? I knew everything.'" She continued, "He noticed that the emails from his daughter, who usually didn't send many, were longer when requesting money."
