Fashion designer Hwang Jae-geun has shared a heartfelt tribute to the late actor Ahn Sung-ki, revealing personal reflections on his past.
On October 5th, Hwang took to his Instagram story to announce the passing of Ahn Sung-ki. He mentioned the blood cancer that the late actor battled, referring to it as "the painful disease that took my father."
Hwang described blood cancer as a condition where "even if you recover, you're not fully healed, and even if you survive, you can't move freely and must remain isolated."
He further added, "The excruciating pain of the repeated treatment process makes one want to give up and leave, like a devilish disease."
Hwang bid farewell to Ahn Sung-ki, saying, "I hope you have flown freely and peacefully away from the disease."
Ahn Sung-ki passed away at the age of 74 after battling blood cancer. His agency, Artist Company, expressed their sorrow, stating, "He was a 'national actor' who valued dignity and responsibility as a person beyond being an actor, respecting fellow artists and the field. We feel deep sadness at the sudden news and wish for his peace."
The late actor's funeral will be held as a film industry funeral, organized by the Shin Young-kyun Arts and Culture Foundation and the Korean Actors Association. Shin Young-kyun will serve as the honorary funeral chairman, with director Bae Chang-ho, Korean Actors Association Chairman Lee Gap-sung, Shin Young-kyun Arts and Culture Foundation Acting Director Shin Eon-sik, and Korean Film Association Director Yang Yoon-ho as co-funeral chairmen. Actors Lee Jung-jae, Jung Woo-sung, and other film industry figures will participate in the procession to accompany Ahn Sung-ki on his final journey.
The wake is set up at Room 31 of the Seoul St. Mary's Hospital Funeral Hall, with the funeral service scheduled for 6 a.m. on October 9th. The burial site will be at Byeolgeurida in Yangpyeong.
