Former NCT member Taeil (31, real name Moon Taeil) has filed an appeal to the Supreme Court after being sentenced to prison for the gang rape of an intoxicated foreigner.
According to legal sources on the 27th, Taeil submitted an appeal to the Seoul High Court's Criminal Division 11-3 (Presiding Judges Park Young-joo, Park Jae-woo, and Jung Moon-kyung) on the 24th. Co-defendants Lee and Hong also filed appeals.
On the 17th, the Seoul High Court's Criminal Division 11-3 sentenced Taeil to three years and six months in prison, upholding the initial verdict for charges of aggravated sexual assault under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act. Co-defendants Lee and Hong received the same sentence.
Before the sentencing, Taeil submitted a letter of reflection, and the defendants argued for a reduced sentence based on their voluntary confession of the crime, but the court did not accept this argument.
Taeil was accused of sexually assaulting a woman who was intoxicated in June last year, along with two acquaintances. The charge of aggravated sexual assault applies when two or more individuals engage in sexual acts with a person unable to resist. The initial trial at the Seoul Central District Court's Criminal Division 26 sentenced Taeil and his two accomplices to three years and six months in prison in July.
